Projection-mapping Installation
Fall 2016
This video-projection installation explores themes of escapism, immersion, and form. It centers around the significance of the framed image as artificial escapism. Still images, such as photographs and paintings, have long served as windows into portraiture and beauty, whether of person or space and landscape. The invention of video gave life to these images, and today we carry around these windows in the palm of our hands. With the help of props like windows and doors, I call attention to this escapism, displaying everyday items that, as frames, signify entrance to another reality.
In this project, the frame has broken, and it has spilled to fully envelop the interior of the room where it is installed. With the help of video and projection-mapping, life can animate this interior space and create a fully immersive experience.
